WATCH: Bill Clinton In The 1990s Was Original MAGA!

I’m not going to sit here and try to claim Bill Clinton was a great President, but I do want to show you just how Far-Left the Democrats have shifted in the last 30 years.
Hard to believe, but the middle of the 1990s was exactly 30 years ago, and I am depressed even typing that! Makes me feel really old!
Anyway, back to Bill Clinton…
Elon Musk recently posted that Bill Clinton’s policies in the 1990s were essentially straight up MAGA:
Funny to think that Bill Clinton’s policies when he was President were essentially MAGA
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) September 28, 2025
And he’s right!
I went back and looked up some old videos and this will probably blow your mind.
The Democrats stand for NONE of these things now, but just 30 years ago Bill Clinton rode a populist wave to 8-years in office running on these issues:
🟢 WATCH: Bill Clinton In The 1990s Was The "OG" MAGA!
TRANSCRIPT:
All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country.
The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants.
The public services they use impose burdens on our taxpayers.
That’s why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders — by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, and by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens.
In the budget I will present to you, we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workforce, as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan.
We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws.
It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.
I mean…very well said Bill!
I agree!

Trump reallocates $1.8 billion in foreign aid —$400 million for Hispanic America— aimed at curbing cartels, authoritarian regimes, and Chinese influence
Jesus Romero
Oct. 5, 2025
The reallocation of $1.8 billion in foreign aid by the Trump administration, including $400 million for Latin America, represents a key opportunity to advance US national security through a strategic and disciplined approach.
Resources must be directed toward dismantling criminal networks, countering authoritarian influence, and protecting American interests, prioritizing concrete actions to maximize impact.
The strategic priorities to follow are:
• Target the cartel-state nexus (Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua).
• Counter Chinese influence through alternative financing and infrastructure resilience.
• Block narco-terrorist logistics (maritime and aviation interdiction).
• Confront authoritarian disinformation campaigns.
• Strengthen institutions and build partner capacity in governance, prosecution, and compliance.
Target the Cartel-State Nexus
Venezuela's Cartel de los Soles, designated a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) organization in July 2025, demonstrates how state power fuses with organized crime .
Nicaragua's Ortega-Murillo regime and Cuba's intelligence services also benefit from drug trafficking, illicit mining, and human smuggling. Aid should be used for sanctions-ready investigations, financial tracing, and prosecutions.
Today, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned the Cartel de los Soles as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.
Cartel de los Soles is a Venezuela-based criminal group headed by Nicolas Maduro Moros and other high-ranking individuals in…
China has expanded its presence through loans, port access, and telecom infrastructure. The 2025 SOUTHCOM Posture Statement warns that Beijing's projects create long-term security risks.
US aid should:
Provide transparent alternatives to PRC infrastructure and port financing.
Help governments audit and renegotiate predatory loan terms.
Secure digital networks against PRC-controlled telecom providers.
Block Narco-Terrorist Logistics
Cocaine, fentanyl precursors, and weapons move through regime-protected maritime and aviation corridors. The DOJ indictment of Nicolás Maduro and senior officials highlights the depth of state-criminal convergence.
50-something countries around the world do not recognize Nicolás Maduro as the rightful president. He's not the president of Venezuela. That's a title he's given himself. -@SecRubiopic.twitter.com/pYpfLMkmuT
Expand maritime and aviation interdiction intelligence
Deploy radar, drones, and sensors across Caribbean chokepoints.
Support quick-turn forecast cells for interdiction partners.
Confront Authoritarian Disinformation
Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua amplify hostile propaganda with support from Russia, China, and Iran. Aid must fund:
A Spanish-language disinformation monitoring hub.
Programs to strengthen independent media resilience.
Integration of disinformation tracking with sanctions and cyber defense.
Strengthen Institutions & Build Partner Capacity
Authoritarian regimes thrive on corruption. Aid must strengthen institutional resilience while empowering allies. GAO has documented weaknesses in counternarcotics oversight.
Train customs, port, and procurement officials to detect corruption.
Support auditors and prosecutors handling complex financial crimes.
Deliver OSINT and compliance training for prosecutors, coast guards, and banks.
Build maritime and aviation interdiction capacity across partner nations.
This debate is not about how much the US spends, but how aid is used. Redirected resources must:
Disrupt cartel-state economies.
Counter Chinese and authoritarian influence.
Stop cocaine and fentanyl flows at their source.
Strengthen partners against corruption.
Every dollar must weaken adversaries and protect American families — or it is wasted. Redirected aid must not be misused for partisan or ideological projects.
It is a strategic weapon for national defense, and America's safety depends on it.
Senator John Thune Weighs in on Government Shutdown – “Democrats Just Need to Open Up the Government. Right Now, We Are at a Stalemate” (VIDEO)
by David Greyson
Oct. 5, 2025 9:00 pm
Senate Majority Leader John Thune was on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo to discuss the Democrats and the ongoing government shutdown.
“Where do the negotiations stand today?” Bartiromo asked Senator Thune.
“Well, there is not a lot to negotiate, Maria. The Democrats just need to open up the government. Right now, we are at a stalemate. They’ve now voted four times. We’ve given them the opportunity, a clean, non-partisan, short-term funding resolution that continues government funding for the next seven weeks, and on four occasions now, they have voted against it,” Thune said.
“What’s happening here is the Democrats are trying to hijack a short-term, non-partisan continuing resolution to fund the government merely for seven weeks to give us an opportunity to get the appropriations process done to try and get one and a half trillion dollars of new spending, make healthcare in this country, free healthcare available to non-citizens in this country,” Thune said of the Democrats.
“The Democrats need to come to that realization and understand their option in front of them here is to open up the government and then we can talk about all of these other things they want to have a conversation about,” Senator Thune said.
“There are expectations out there from analysts that this shutdown could last weeks, not days. How long are you expecting this to go on?” Bartiromo asked.
Senator Thune explained that getting the government open depended on Democrats willingness to vote with the Republicans to get at least the minimum of 60 votes to pass legislation.
“I think it’s just as long as the Democrats want it go to on. I mean, they are the ones, they have the controlling card right now,” Thune said.
“All we need is another five Democrat Senators to join us to get the 60 votes that are necessary to pass legislation in the Senate,” Thune continued.
Senator Thune also explained that the leadership of the Democrats in the Senate is responsible for the shutdown because they are controlled by interest groups that are on the far-left.
“This is a Schumer shutdown. Chuck Schumer instigated this at the behest of a bunch of far-left, liberal interest groups, but there are Democrats who are reaching out to Republicans, having conversations about how we might be able to get the government opened up again,” Thune continued.
“This is a very costly endeavor for the Democrats to take because it really does hurt people across this country,” Thune said.
“Have you identified five more that you think could actually vote with Republicans?” Bartiromo asked.
“There are conversations ongoing Maria, where Democrats who I think realize this is a losing strategy for them and it really ends in a dead end, want to find an offramp here and are talking to Republicans,” Thune said.
“I think right now their leadership is stuck because these left-wing special interest groups are so adamant in their desire to fight President Trump,” Thune explained.

California Governor Gavin Newsom just gave his state’s Uber and Lyft drivers a one way ticket to the unemployment line.
Newsom signed a landmark agreement on Friday that would allow Uber and Lyft drivers to form a union.
The Democrat said at a press conference that the unionization deal will offer ride-hailing drivers a “voice, to give them choice, give them dignity and a say about their future.”
“I say that because it needs to be said: I’m not naive about how people are feeling about their future,” he explained.

California has become the second state in the nation, after Massachusetts, to allow Uber and Lyft drivers to unite at an industry level to negotiate for higher pay and benefits, such as health coverage.
The arrangement was finalized in August through talks between Democratic lawmakers in Sacramento, SEIU union officials, and representatives from Uber and Lyft.
The measure, known as AB 1340, was introduced by Assemblymembers Buffy Wicks and Marc Berman and sponsored by SEIU California.
It establishes rules that allow app-based drivers to bargain collectively for improved wages and access to employee-style benefits, including health insurance.
Yet sadly, it does not take a genius to work out that all Newsom is condemning the state’s 800,000 Uber and Lyft drivers to losing their jobs altogether.
Companies such as Uber and Lyft are already aggressively driving down the wages earned by their drivers as part of their efforts to become profitable.
The decline in wages is also linked to the exploding popularity of ride-sharing as a profession, in many cases embraced by immigrants and people who are searching for more permanent work.
Nowadays, most long-time drivers reminisce about the “glory days” when they could earn a respectable living from their work.
Yet, as well as make these companies less sympathetic to their drivers, it will also force them to accelerate their rollout of self-driving vehicles that will not require any human whatsoever.
As self-driving taxis surge, Newsom signs a deal that could put ride-share drivers out of a job @scottAdamsSays “So we’re 1-2 years away from every Uber and Lyft driver losing their job because they can’t compete with self driving taxis.

These vehicles, mainly run by the likes of Tesla and Google’s Waymo, are already operating across the streets of California and many other states including Arizona and Texas.
Within just a few years, Uber and Lyft drivers in California will have no jobs with which they can bargain.
More Than 8,600 People Arrested in FBI Campaign Targeting Violent Crimes
Over 1,000 child victims were located by authorities in recent operations.
Naveen Athrappully
10/4/2025
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and its partners have arrested 8,629 individuals across the United States as part of its “Summer Heat” campaign, the agency said in an Oct. 2 statement.
More than 6,500 out of the 8,629 arrests fell under the FBI’s Violent Crime and Gang program, said the agency.
“We are not messing around,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “Our No. 1 mission is crushing violent crime. If you hurt a child, we’re coming for you. If you jack a car, we’re coming for you. If you’re polluting our neighborhoods with deadly drugs, we’re coming for you.”
Investigators looking into violent crimes against children located or identified 1,053 minor victims as part of Summer Heat. In addition, authorities have seized 2,281 weapons, 98,000 pounds of cocaine, and 928 pounds of fentanyl.
The operations took place between June 24 and Sept. 20, with all 55 FBI field offices contributing to the offensive, the FBI said.
In one operation, the agency targeted violent offenders in four cities—Baton Rouge and New Orleans in Louisiana; Memphis in Tennessee; and Miami in Florida—leading to the arrests of 417 individuals and seizing 159 firearms.
“We are grateful for Director Kash Patel and our brave FBI agents who removed more than 8,600 violent offenders from our streets this summer,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
“Under President [Donald] Trump’s directive to make America safe again, this Department of Justice will continue prosecuting violent crime and dismantling criminal gangs who are wreaking havoc in our communities.”
In an Oct. 3 statement, FBI Dallas said it captured several criminals over the past three months, which included the arrests of Ten Most Wanted Fugitive Cindy Rodriguez Singh and Cesar Pascual Orozco.
“Under Operation Summer Heat, FBI Dallas collaborated with our law enforcement partners to apprehend fugitives, seize drugs and firearms, and arrest child predators. We remain committed to protecting our North Texas communities from violent crime,” said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock.
The FBI’s stats come as the Trump administration has taken numerous steps to tackle violent crime in various American cities.
In August, Trump federalized D.C.’s policing. On Sept. 9, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that law enforcement had arrested 2,177 individuals in the nation’s capital since then.
Trump has also ordered federal agents to assist state and local officials in Tennessee, with the federal crackdown leading to 153 arrests in Memphis in four days since Monday.
Meanwhile, Trump signed a memorandum on Sept. 25, ordering the attorney general to fully implement the death penalty in the District of Columbia.
In a Sept. 25 statement, Free DC, a movement for self-determination rights in Washington, criticized the measure and accused Trump of wanting to “spread fear” via the death penalty decision.
“His actions are not about safety, they are only about him consolidating power,” Free DC said.
“This is yet another reminder that D.C. needs full power over our justice system—permanently. We need statehood now. Not tomorrow, not in four years. Now.”
The administration is also cracking down on illegal immigrant crimes. On Oct. 3, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the arrests of more than 1,000 illegal immigrants under Operation Midway Blitz, which targets illegal immigrant criminals in Illinois.
The agency said the arrested individuals include the “worst of the worst,” such as child abusers, pedophiles, gang members, and kidnappers.
“President Trump and Secretary Kristi Noem will not allow continued violence or repeat offenders to terrorize our neighborhoods and victimize our children,” said DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin. “Operation Midway Blitz is making Illinois safe again.”
Carl DeMaio and Reform California are leading the fight to defeat Prop 50 – and your help is needed in the fight!
Gavin Newsom and CA politicians have called a costly special election on November 4 to redraw the state’s congressional maps at a cost to taxpayers of more than $200 million, even as California is facing a $20 billion budget deficit that cuts priorities like public safety and emergency response.
Prop 50 will put the politicians in the State Legislature in charge of those maps. Defeating Prop 50 would keep the current system approved by a citizens’ initiative that requires an independent redistricting commission to draw election districts in a strictly non-partisan manner.
Prop 50 takes the redistricting power away from citizens and gives that power back to the politicians so they can manipulate the lines of election districts for their own personal political benefit.
As proof of how corrupt Newsom and CA politicians are on this issue, Prop 50 has a FALSE TITLE – deceptively worded to suggest to voters that a YES vote would keep the independent citizens redistricting commission when in fact a YES vote eliminates the citizens from the process and hands the power back to the politicians.
While Newsom and CA Democrats say Prop 50 is a response to Trump and Texas redistricting, California shouldn't retaliate and sacrifice its integrity by ending fair elections.
The truth is CA politicians have always opposed the independent citizens redistricting commission that was imposed on them in 2010. Now they are using hatred of Trump as the window dressing to fool voters into grabbing the power back from the people.
Join the fight to DEFEND FAIR ELECTIONS in California!
On November 4 – Vote NO on Prop 50!
Top 5 Reasons to Vote NO on Prop 50:
1. Allows Politicians to Seize Power from Citizens
Hands the power back to politicians to rig the system by drawing districts safe for their cronies and guaranteeing their reelection. That’s not democracy — that’s entrenchment.
2. Permits Corrupt Backroom Deals
Instead of a bipartisan group of citizens drawn from everyday Californians drawing the district lines over a year with public hearings and input, Sacramento politicians rushed Prop 50’s maps through the State Legislature in just one week, with new districts that only benefit their own careers.
3. Wastes $200 Million on a Costly Special Election
Spends $200 million on a costly special election while California is facing a $20 billion budget deficit that cuts priorities like public safety and emergency services.
4. Eliminates Fair and Competitive Districts
Allows gerrymandering, which disproportionately harms communities of color, reduces competitive elections, and erodes accountability. Strips constitutional protections that currently ensure communities are kept whole and that maps are not drawn to favor political parties or incumbents.
5. Not Temporary — it Will Be Permanent
Just like “temporary” taxes, fees and regulations, once politicians have power, they never give it back to the people. Letting Sacramento politicians “temporarily” kill off a piece of democracy sets a dangerous precedent that could be used by future politicians to undermine constitutional safeguards.
Answer to “What about Texas?”
Gerrymandering districts by politicians is NEVER ok – whether here, in Texas, or anywhere else. We believe Texas and all states should adopt California’s independent citizens’ redistricting model. While we might not like what Texas is doing, California shouldn't retaliate and sacrifice its integrity. California must rise above partisan games and protect fair, competitive elections without resorting to gerrymandering.
On MSNBC The Weeknight, Rep. Jasmine Crockett broke down the truth about the Republican shutdown fight. Democrats are pushing to protect health care for millions of Americans, while Republicans are using threats, lies, and distractions to cover up the fact that their only priority is billionaires.
Crockett made it clear that health care is not a bargaining chip. The GOP has no plan for the American people — just chaos, cruelty, and cover-ups. From illegal firings to threats against federal workers, Republicans are showing exactly who they fight for, and it’s not everyday Americans.
This fight isn’t about politics. It’s about whether families can afford care, whether workers keep their jobs, and whether democracy can survive leaders who treat government like a game. Jasmine Crockett’s message: stand strong, tell the truth, and don’t let the lies win.
The government shutdown will continue next week, as House Speaker Mike Johnson cancels all votes on the calendar through Oct. 14 for a “district working period.” Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) joins The Weeknight with insight into how Americans are feeling about the stalled negotiations moments after her town hall with constituents.
So Mike is keeping Congress home for another week so he doesn’t have to swear in the new Democrat rep. He’s doing this to avoid releasing the Epstein files. What an absolute corrupt fascist!
The US president’s recent behavior is strange to many, from reposting a false AI video of himself to confusing comments during press conferences
By Adam Gabbatt
To many observers, both in the US and abroad, Donald Trump has been behaving strangely recently. Especially online.
As a government shutdown loomed in the US last week, the president posted an AI video which depicted Hakeem Jeffries, the first Black House minority leader, wearing a sombrero and exaggerated moustache, with mariachi music playing in the background.
Hispanic groups criticized Trump’s posts as “racist”, “dangerous” and “reprehensible”, but Trump doubled down, posting a new video which showed himself wearing a sombrero and playing the guitar behind a rendering of Jeffries.
It wasn’t the only situation where Trump’s behavior has seemed unusual. Last weekend Trump reposted to Truth Social an AI-generated fake video which promoted “med bed hospitals”. Trump has reposted AI content before, but the difference was that this video showed an AI version of himself speaking.
“Every American will soon receive their own med bed card,” the AI rendering of Trump, apparently seated in the Oval Office, said. “With it, you’ll have guaranteed access to our new hospitals led by the top doctors in the nation, equipped with the most advanced technology in the world.”
Setting aside the fact that the idea of “med beds” is a rightwing conspiracy theory – one version of the theory posits that the government and/or a group of wealthy Americans have access to medical bed-like devices that can cure almost every illness, but are withholding the technology – Trump’s post prompted a number of questions.
Did Trump, 79, believe that the video really showed him announcing med bed hospitals? Does the president think he gave a speech about med beds at the White House? Does he believe that his government is about to send “med bed cards” to every US citizen?
The post was ultimately deleted, but it remains baffling, and the White House’s response did little to allay the confusion.
“I think the president saw the video and posted it, and then took it down,” Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said when asked about the video on Wednesday.
“And he has the right to do that. It’s his social media. He’s incredibly transparent, as you all know. You hear from him directly on social media. He likes to share memes, he likes to share videos, he likes to repost things that he sees other people post on social media as well and I think it’s quite refreshing that we have a president who is so open and honest.”
Leavitt’s words did little to explain Trump’s thinking as to why he might have posted the fake video. But, in truth, it was only the most recent example of increasingly odd behavior from Trump, who has – like his predecessor Joe Biden – been subject to questions over his mental acuity in recent months.
In a recent speech at the White House where Trump claimed – against most existing evidence – that Tylenol could contribute to autism if women take it during pregnancy, Trump confusingly spoke of “certain elements of genius that can be given to a baby”.
Announcing that 13 grants would be awarded to investigate autism, Trump added: “They have to move quickly. They, they – when the alternative is that nothing bad can happen, let’s do it now. I was just saying to Bobby [health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr] and the group, let’s do it now. Nothing bad can happen, it can only good happen.”
A week earlier, during a press conference with British prime minister Keir Starmer, Trump confused Albania with Armenia when discussing a peace deal struck between Armenia and Azerbaijan – a mistake Trump also made during an appearance on Fox News.
Back in the social media world, on Sunday Trump wrote on Truth Social that he had “been briefed” on a shooting at a Mormon church in Michigan which killed four people. “The Trump Administration will keep the Public posted, as we always do,” Trump wrote.
He did indeed post again. But it was not an update on the still unfolding tragedy in Michigan. Instead, three hours later, he shared a video which showed an array of gold fixtures and fittings.
“Some of the highest quality 24 Karat Gold used in the Oval Office and Cabinet Room of the White House. Foreign Leaders, and everyone else, ‘freak out’ when they see the quality and beauty. Best Oval Office ever, in terms of success and look!!! President DJT,” he wrote.
He did not comment again that day on the Michigan shooting, although he did complain about the new NFL kickoff rule.
Defense lawyers are arguing that the administration’s across-the-airwaves comments are hurting their clients’ chances at a fair trial.
By Erica Orden
President Donald Trump is deploying the Justice Department to punish and prosecute his perceived enemies and advance his political agenda. But his color commentary — and that of senior members of his administration — about the cases is threatening to derail them in court.
Public comments by Trump and high-ranking officials including Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have already become flashpoints in high-profile cases. Judges overseeing criminal proceedings against Luigi Mangione, charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Salvadoran man who was illegally deported by the Trump administration, have warned the administration to stop making remarks that could prevent the defendants from having fair trials, or have suggested they may already have violated rules against doing so.
In two other criminal cases — against former FBI Director James Comey and against alleged Charlie Kirk shooter Tyler Robinson — remarks by Trump and others are all but certain to show up in court filings as the defendants argue their cases should be thrown out. The defense lawyers in all four cases would need to convince the judges that the comments prevent their clients from receiving a fair trial because potential jurors have been prejudiced.
And as the Justice Department, at Trump’s urging, pursues the potential prosecution of Trump foes Letitia James, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), John Bolton, John Brennan and others, Trump’s tendency to proclaim the guilt of an unconvicted defendant or publicly pressure prosecutors to bring charges will likely continue to create significant legal headaches.
Still, it is exceedingly uncommon for a case to be thrown out due to prejudicial comments, although there are lesser steps, such as gag orders, that judges can impose to try to create a fair environment for defendants.
“It’s just one more example of how this administration has eliminated a dividing line between politics and law,” said Stephen Gillers, a professor at New York University law school who specializes in legal ethics. The Trump administration, he said, is “treating these prosecutions as a political issue as well as a legal issue, and they’re willing to make statements that ordinarily occur in a political dispute in the context of court action because they see it in the same category.”
A spokesperson for the Justice Department declined to comment.
In the case against Mangione, the judge has rebuked the Justice Department over comments by Trump, Bondi and a spokesperson for the department, Chad Gilmartin. U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett said their comments may have violated rules that prohibit out-of-court statements that interfere with a fair trial.
Trump told a TV interviewer of Mangione that “He shot — he looked like a pure assassin. … He shot him right in the middle of the back. Instantly dead. And now he’s like, I’m watching the girls going crazy for him.”
A day later, Gilmartin, in a since-deleted X post, re-posted a clip of Trump’s remarks and wrote: “@POTUS is absolutely right. In April, @AGpambondi took action and directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case.”
And in a separate TV interview, Bondi said, “I was a capital prosecutor. I tried death penalty cases throughout my career. If there was ever a death case, this is one.” She added that “I was receiving death threats for seeking the death penalty on someone who is charged with an execution of a CEO.”
Mangione’s lawyers contend that her comments “make Mangione seem dangerous to the country and menacing to the Attorney General.”
Mangione’s lawyers have asked Garnett to toss the indictment over the remarks or to preclude the government from seeking the death penalty, calling Bondi’s comments in particular “fatally prejudicial.”
“Such language about a defendant and the existential structural risk to society he presents would be prejudicial coming from anyone,” his lawyers wrote. “Issued repeatedly and publicly by the nation’s highest law enforcement official, while a grand jury was hearing evidence, these statements are fatally prejudicial in this death penalty case.”
Garnett, a Biden appointee, ordered prosecutors to advise Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and other officials that future violations could result in sanctions, including personal financial penalties, contempt of court findings or “relief specific to the prosecution of this matter.”
By Wednesday, she ordered, officials in the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, which is prosecuting the case, must file a letter explaining how comments by Bondi and others occurred, detail “what steps are being taken to ensure that no future violations occur” and confirm that the judge’s order has been communicated to Blanche.
Abrego contends both that public statements from government officials are threatening his right to a fair trial and that his indictment should be dismissed on the grounds of vindictive and selective prosecution, and he has won incremental victories in both fights.
On Friday, the judge overseeing his case, U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw, concluded that there is a “realistic likelihood of vindictiveness” in the government’s prosecution of Abrego. “Just because actual vindictiveness is a high bar, however, does not mean that it is never satisfied,” Crenshaw wrote.
The judge granted him discovery and an evidentiary hearing.
In late August, Abrego asked Crenshaw to order Bondi and Noem to stop verbally attacking him as his criminal trial on immigrant smuggling charges approaches.
It was the third time defense attorneys had lodged similar complaints.
“Further intervention from the Court is necessary to protect Mr. Abrego’s right to a fair trial and the integrity of these proceedings,” Abrego’s attorneys said. “The government’s ongoing barrage of prejudicial statements severely threaten — and perhaps have already irrevocably impaired — the ability to try this case at all — in any venue.”
Ordered by Crenshaw to explain whether they’ve complied with rules prohibiting prejudicial comments, prosecutors on Friday told the court that government attorneys working on the case had made no public comments since the start of proceedings, but excluded any mention of remarks by senior government officials.

'They're causing real harm': Kevin Hassett on the Dems' shutdown standoff
Though Trump’s comments about these cases may be the most visible, it is remarks by Bondi or other Justice Department officials that may have the greatest chance of jeopardizing them in court, said former federal prosecutor Martin Bell.
“The chance of there being some sort of fallout is amplified when you’ve got actual DOJ officials who are theoretically closer to the charging decisions and closer to knowledge of the evidence making these undisciplined statements,” Bell said. “As much as the president is the president, those types of statements may strike a judge as being even more problematic.”
It is rare, though not unprecedented, for a judge to chastise or take concrete steps to either punish a prosecutor or provide a remedy related to the prosecution of a case in response to out-of-court statements. In 2015, U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni scolded then-Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara for a “media blitz” he conducted in the wake of corruption charges against a high-level New York elected official, Sheldon Silver.
At a press conference the day of Silver’s arrest, Bharara told reporters that “the greedy art of secret self-reward was practiced with particular cleverness and cynicism by the Speaker himself.” In an MSNBC interview, Bharara said of Silver: “You see somebody who has basically sold his office to line his pockets.”
In his comments, the judge wrote, Bharara “strayed so close to the edge of the rules governing his own conduct that Defendant Sheldon Silver has a non-frivolous argument that he fell over the edge to the Defendant’s prejudice.”
But the Obama appointee denied Silver’s effort to dismiss the indictment, saying there wasn’t substantial evidence that the comments influenced the grand jury’s decision to indict.
The Comey case is in its early days, but his lawyers are likely to seize on the extraordinary public pressure Trump put on Bondi to bring charges against the former FBI director. In a social media post, Trump admitted to installing his former lawyer as a top prosecutor in order to engineer the indictment and suggested the charges would settle the score in the wake of his own criminal cases.
And in the days since Comey was indicted, Trump has repeatedly called him a “dirty cop” and proclaimed his guilt.
“HE LIED! It is not a complex lie, it’s a very simple, but IMPORTANT one,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He knew exactly what he was saying, and that it was a very serious and far reaching lie for which a very big price must be paid!”
Though getting an indictment dismissed based on “selective or vindictive” prosecution is rare, Comey may have an unusually strong argument to attack his indictment on that basis.
As for Robinson, he currently faces state charges in Utah for allegedly killing Kirk, though Bondi has indicated federal charges may be forthcoming. Bondi has called Robinson a “horrible human being.”
Trump said of Robinson: “I hope he’s going to be found guilty, and I hope he gets the death penalty. What he did — Charlie Kirk was the finest person and he didn’t deserve this.”
At a pretrial hearing late last month, Judge Tony Graf signed an order instructing both prosecutors and defense counsel not to make any statements outside the courtroom that could potentially prejudice the jury pool.
“Let me be clear, I will not put my finger on the scale of justice,” Graf said.
He added: “Counsel, regardless of who is watching, whether it is the nation or a single individual, we must fulfill our roles with integrity, civility, and diligence.”
“This is a breathtaking abuse of the law and power,” the governor said in a statement.

SACRAMENTO, California — President Donald Trump deployed 300 California National Guard troops to Portland after a federal judge blocked the president’s call-up of Oregon’s National Guard, Gavin Newsom said Sunday, vowing to sue the Trump administration in response.
The California governor argued the move — with troops on their way to Portland on Sunday morning — flouted the Oregon order.
“This is a breathtaking abuse of the law and power,” Newsom said in a statement. “The Trump Administration is unapologetically attacking the rule of law itself and putting into action their dangerous words — ignoring court orders and treating judges, even those appointed by the President himself, as political opponents.” A Trump administration spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The overtaking of California troops, once again against the sitting governor’s will, further escalates President Trump’s relentless offensive on Golden State Democrats. His administration has in just the last few weeks lobbed mortgage fraud allegations against Sen. Adam Schiff, canceled funding to California and other blue states amid the government shutdown and threatened to move Olympic and World Cup competitions out of Los Angeles, citing crime.
Trump had already moved to send California troops — who he dispatched to Los Angeles amid immigration protests earlier this year — to train the Oregon Guard, Newsom told the San Francisco Chronicle on Friday. The cross-state deployment added a new twist to the administration’s overtaking of troops in blue states. Trump’s previous plans for deployments in Illinois and Oregon involved personnel local to those states.
Trump says federal staff will be laid off if government shutdown talks go nowhere

President Donald Trump is prepared to begin massive layoffs of federal workers if he deems that negotiations with Congressional Democrats to end the partial government shutdown are 'absolutely going nowhere.'
As the shutdown entered its fifth day on Sunday, White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett told CNN: 'President Trump and Russ Vought are lining things up and getting ready to act if they have to, but hoping that they don't.'
'If the president decides that the negotiations are absolutely going nowhere, then there will start to be layoffs. But I think that everybody is still hopeful that when we get a fresh start at the beginning of the week, that we can get the Democrats to see that it's just common sense to avoid layoffs like that.'
If Democrats back down as Hassett and the president hope, it would avoid an expensive shutdown and the federal layoffs that have been threatened by White House budget director Russell Vought.
Trump described the potential job cuts as 'Democrat layoffs,' saying: 'Anybody laid off that's because of the Democrats.'
