Police in Canada are investigating the death of a 21-year-old female student whose body was discovered on Sunday in a park along the shore of the Ottawa River.
The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has identified the student as Vanshika Saini, an Indian national. According to CTV News, she had been missing for several days before her body was found.
Saini had moved to Ottawa about two and a half years ago to pursue higher education. On the evening of April 25, she reportedly left her home to inspect a rental room.
When she failed to attend an important exam the following morning, a friend attempted to contact her, but her phone had been switched off, The Mirror reported.
The cause of her death remains unknown. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
The Indian High Commission expressed its deep sorrow in a social media post, stating it is in close contact with Saini’s family and local Indian community associations.
Prior to the discovery of her body, the High Commission had shared letters from local Hindu community members urging Ottawa police to conduct a thorough investigation into her disappearance.

Bắc Kinh vừa tăng thuế đối với hàng nhập khẩu của Mỹ lên 125%, đáp trả quyết định tăng thuế đối với hàng hóa Trung Quốc lên 145% của Tổng thống Donald Trump.

At the “Developing Green Destinations – Elevating Vietnam’s Tourism” forum, held as part of the VITM Hanoi 2025 event, Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, emphasized the need for collaboration among tourism stakeholders to build a cohesive green tourism strategy. "It's time to clarify the responsibilities of all involved parties in Vietnam's green tourism development," he said.
Thanks to international partnerships and local initiatives, several green destinations have begun to gain recognition in Vietnam.
Hoang Thuy Huong, Director of Market Development at the Trang An Eco-Tourism Area, shared how the site applies the “Three No’s” policy: no concrete in the heritage core, no motorized boats, and no interference with the area's natural hydrology and landscape. This strict adherence has led to the preservation of the site’s pristine condition.
"Nearly 2,000 boat rowers act as cultural ambassadors, raising awareness about conservation and green tourism. As managers, we simply extend their efforts within a dual-ecosystem model,” Huong said.

Vietnam will reduce its 63 provinces and cities to 34 under a sweeping administrative restructuring approved by the Party Central Committee.
The 11th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee wrapped up on Saturday afternoon after three days of sitting, with all of its agenda completed.
Addressing the closing session, Party General Secretary To Lam said that members of the committee discussed many new and important matters, and reached high consensus on major and core issues, culminating in a unanimous vote to adopt the plenum's resolution.
Many members proposed the Politburo recognize the session as a historic one, marking a turning point with bold decisions for the country’s new phase of revolutionary development, he said.
The Party chief praised the committee’s proactive, scientific, and efficient work attitude, as well as the thorough and focused preparations carried out by sub-committees and relevant agencies.
He said that the Party Central Committee reached broad agreement on proposals concerning the continued restructuring of the political system’s organizational apparatus, rearranging administrative units and organizing local administrations with provincial and communal levels.
Under the new model, the country will comprise 34 provincial-level units (28 provinces and six centrally-run cities), with specific names and administrative centers determined according to the outlined principles.
The dissolution of district-level administrative units will be conducted, pending the National Assembly’s revision of the 2013 Constitution and the 2025 Law on Local Government Organization.
Commune-level units will be merged to reduce their overall number by around 60–70%.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has confirmed that there are no signs of life beneath the rubble of the State Audit Office building in Chatuchak, which collapsed following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.
“When we were trying to rescue survivors, it was like a sprint. Now, the operation must continue steadily, like a marathon,” Chadchart said, according to The Nation.
The rescue efforts have now entered their 10th day, transitioning from emergency search-and-rescue to debris removal. The debris field has been divided into four zones — A, B, C, and D — to improve coordination of the ongoing search and recovery operations.
Heavy machinery is now being used to lift large concrete slabs, with equipment entering both through the main entrance and via the State Railway land next to the site. This has allowed responders to access the top layers of rubble and begin gradually clearing the remains of the collapsed structure.
Thai authorities earlier reported that the death toll from the earthquake had risen to 24. Of these, 17 people were confirmed dead in the collapse of the high-rise building in Bangkok, which was still under construction at the time of the disaster. 77 individuals remain missing.

After blasting to an early gain of 4.1%, which would have marked its best day in years, the S&P 500 quickly lost all of it. It then careened to a loss of 3% before paring its drop to 1.6%. That left the index, which sits at the heart of many investors’ 401(k) accounts, nearly 19% below its record set in February.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 320 points, or 0.8%, after erasing an earlier surge of 1,460 points, while the Nasdaq composite dropped 2.1%.
The shocking swings followed rallies for stocks globally earlier in the day, with indexes up 6% in Tokyo, 2.5% in Paris and 1.6% in Shanghai. But even after those jumps, analysts had been warning to expect more swings up and down for financial markets not just in the days ahead but also the hours.
The big question remains centered on how long Trump will keep his stiff tariffs on other countries, which would raise prices for U.S. shoppers and slow the economy. If they last a long time, economists and investors expect them to cause a recession. But if Trump lowers them through negotiations relatively quickly, the worst-case scenario can be avoided.

A police officer was killed in the line of duty during a major drug bust in northern Vietnam, as authorities uncovered a large-scale heroin trafficking operation involving armed suspects who violently resisted arrest.
Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai, a 35-year-old officer with the Drug Crime Investigation Division of the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Department, died on the night of April 17 while pursuing suspects in a criminal ring smuggling large quantities of heroin into the region.
According to the Quang Ninh Police, the operation stemmed from an investigation into a major drug trafficking network led by 58-year-old Nguyen Huu Dang, a resident of Hung Thang Ward in Ha Long City.
Police had gathered enough intelligence to launch a coordinated raid, identifying Dang as the ringleader of a group involved in transporting and selling illegal drugs.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. on April 17, undercover units apprehended Dang near the Dragon Castle apartment complex in Ha Long City as he attempted to conduct a transaction involving 16 bricks of heroin.
Following his arrest, additional police units moved quickly to round up other individuals connected to the ring, including Bui Dinh Khanh, 31, of Gieng Day Ward, Ha Long City, and a group of men from Phu Tho Province believed to be involved in drug distribution.
