Travel agents worried about Tourism Ambassador

Ly Nha Ky or Tran Thi Thanh Nhan was appointed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as Vietnam’s Tourism Ambassador on September 21. Immediately, the decision was responded by negative feedback from the public, sourcing from scandals related to Ly Nha Ky’s personal life. The actress is also doubted to make false statement of her qualifications.

Ly Nha Ky previously told the media that she studied economics at a university in Germany, called Real University.

The media suspected that she was lying about her education background because readers in Germany said there is no such academic institution as Real University in Germany. The actress explained that Real is just the nickname and the official name of the school is Alexander Wiegand.

“We have a slogan: Real People – Real Work – Real Action, so we call it Real for short. Also, Real comes from Alexander where we get the letters ER and AL from,” she said.

However, googling “Alexander Wiegand” or a related word does not show any valid information.

Readers in Germany also said there is no school by this name, except for a training school for home pets (http://www.erfurt.citymap.de/0111000...xander-wiegand), which is at 99094 Erfurt - Hochheim, Hessen, Germany.

Ly Nha Ky denied doubt on her education background but refused to show graduation certificate as proof, saying she doesn’t have to please everybody.

“That’s the school where I graduated from and it has been verified by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It is unreasonable to google it and say that it is a school for pets,” she said.

Besides doubt of her education background, the public could not understand of information about her record.

In an interview in 2007, the actress said her father is a Russian who met her mother while he worked as an oil and gas expert in Vung Tau. In April 2010 she confirmed against that her father is a Russian. But in her application for the Vietnam’s Tourism Ambassador title, she declared that her father is a Vietnamese war martyr.

Tran Nhat Hoang, director of the Center for Sports and Tourism Promotion under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, told an online newspaper that information provided by Ly Nha Ky is accurate but he did not explain about doubt over her diploma. However, he confirmed that Ly Nha Ky’s father is a martyr.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that questions about Ly Nha Ky will be answered at its monthly meeting today, October 7.

Ly Nha Ky said that her great concern at this moment is advertising for Ha Long Bay, and calling for move votes for the bay in the poll of the new seven world natural heritages, which will close in November.

Hoang, director of the Center for Sports and Tourism Promotion, said that Ly Nha Ky has performed very well her role as Vietnam’s Tourism Ambassador in recent events. The actress will go to Hong Kong next week to call for votes for Ha Long Bay.

Young girls now often show their strength, flexibility and modernity, but still maintain their traditional and charming features. I am very proud to be a Vietnamese woman,” Ky said in response to public criticism that she was too ‘Western’ in looks and style.
