Thật ngẫu nhiên, lịch sử của Việt Nam trong thế kỷ XX, XXI có khá nhiều điểm tương tự như lịch sử Ukraine. Và những gì đất nước, dân tộc Ukraine đang trải qua những ngày này là những gì mà đất nước, dân tộc Việt Nam đã trải qua.


Cũng như Ukraine, Việt Nam phải ở bên cạnh một quốc gia láng giềng lớn mạnh hơn gấp nhiều lần và xấu tính, luôn luôn muốn kiểm soát, khống chế nước bạn nhỏ yếu hơn và nếu không kiểm soát được thì đem quân tấn công, tàn phá.

Ukraine đã trải qua ba năm chiến đấu chống lại cuộc xâm lược toàn diện của Nga, nhưng thật ra cuộc chiến đó đã bắt đầu từ năm 2014.

Trong khi đó Trung Quốc cũng đã từng tiến đánh Việt Nam. Ngày 17/2/2025 này là ngày tưởng niệm 46 năm Trung Quốc đưa quân tấn công Việt Nam trên toàn tuyến biên giới giữa hai nước. Mặc dù Trung Quốc tuyên bố rút quân vào ngày 16/3 nhưng trên thực tế, xung đột trên bộ và cả trên biển giữa hai bên vẫn kéo dài đến tận năm 1988. Và Việt Nam đã phải mất một phần lãnh thổ, lảnh hải, đảo sau cuộc xung đột này.

Nhiều người Việt vẫn còn nhớ nằm lòng sự tàn ác, dã man của Trung Cộng với chiến thuật “lấy thịt đè người”, với phương châm giết sạch, phá sạch, không chừa một ai, một cái gì.

Quân đội Nga của Putin cũng vậy, không tiếc sinh mạng của binh lính, càng không hề tôn trọng các quy ước, luật lệ quốc tế về chiến tranh, tàn bạo tấn công vào bệnh viện, trường học, nhà dân, hãm hiếp phụ nữ, bắt cóc trẻ con, tra tấn tù nhân, cho tới tẩy não người Ukraine tại các khu vực quân Nga chiếm đóng được. Đáng thương hơn người Việt Nam, người Ukraine đã phải chịu đựng sự tàn bạo kinh hoàng đó từ năm 2014, và ở cường độ cao hơn, từ tháng 2/2022.

Và bây giờ, Ukraine đang đứng trước nguy cơ bị Hoa Kỳ, dưới thời chính phủ Trump, bỏ rơi, bắt tay với Putin để kết thúc cuộc chiến một cách hoàn toàn bất lợi cho Ukraine. Điều này khiến người Việt nhớ lại bi kịch của VNCH trước kia.

Lẽ ra với sự tương đồng về hoàn cảnh, số phận như thế, người Việt sẽ thông cảm với dân tộc Ukraine, lên án Putin, chỉ trích chính quyền Donald Trump. Nhưng thật lạ lùng, với quan niệm của những người pro-Nga, pro-Trump. Với những người Việt pro-Nga, họ cười cợt, chế diễu Ukraine, nhục mạ Tổng thống Zelensky về chuyện phải dựa vào vũ khí của Mỹ, của phương Tây. Hình như họ quên mất trong cả hai cuộc chiến chống Pháp, chống Mỹ, đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam đã phải lệ thuộc, cầu viện sự hỗ trợ mọi mặt của Liên Xô, Trung Cộng, trong khi đó phía VNCH cũng phải cần đến sự hỗ trợ của đồng minh Hoa Kỳ.

Hay nói khác đi, trong cuộc chiến Việt Nam giai đoạn 1954-1975, cả hai bên đều chỉ có mình trần anh em một nhà đánh nhau chết bỏ với vũ khí, đạn dược của người ngoài cung cấp.

Với những người Việt pro-Nga, họ đổ lỗi cho Ukraine vì đã muốn thoát ra khỏi vòng kiềm tỏa của Nga-Putin, muốn đi theo mô hình dân chủ của các nước châu Âu/ phương Tây để có thể phát triển tốt hơn. Không lẽ các quốc gia độc lập, có chủ quyền không có quyền chọn lựa con đường đi, chọn lựa mô hình thể chế của mình? Nếu vậy Việt Nam cũng không được quyền thay đổi mà phải mãi mãi học theo mô hình của Trung Quốc? Hoặc đổ lỗi cho Zelensky và dân Ukraine vì đã đứng lên chiến đấu chống lại Nga, thay vì chịu nhường nhịn để tránh chiến tranh, bằng bất cứ giá nào.

Ngày xưa, ông Hồ Chí Minh kêu gọi “dù có phải đốt cháy cả dãy Trường Sơn…”, đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam khi đó đã đánh Mỹ từ khi Mỹ chưa có mặt ở Việt Nam, đánh Mỹ khi Mỹ đã rút đi rồi, hiệp định hòa bình đã ký nhưng vẫn vứt vào sọt rác, tiếp tục đánh cho tới khi nào giành được độc quyền lãnh đạo trên toàn quốc mới thôi. Còn bây giờ thì lại có những người chỉ trích Tổng thống Zelensky vì đã chiến đấu, cũng như có những người ủng hộ kết thúc chiến tranh càng sớm càng tốt, bất kể cái giá mà dân tộc Ukraine phải trả là rất không công bằng và nguy hiểm cho an ninh, tương lai của nước họ ra sao.

Với những người Việt pro-Trump, đặc biệt là người miền Nam từng đau đớn khi VNCH bị bỏ rơi, bị bức tử, nhưng bây giờ họ lại đồng tình khi chính quyền Trump hành xử như vậy-tẩy trắng cho một tên độc tài giết người đang bị truy nã vì phạm tội ác chiến tranh là Putin, mời [Putin] vào bàn đàm phán, gạt Ukraine và châu Âu ra ngoài (mặc dù đây là số phận của Ukraine và an ninh của châu Âu, và mặc dù như chính miệng quan chức chính quyền Trump tuyên bố, châu Âu cùng với Ukraine sau đó phải tiếp tục đương đầu với nước Nga Putin chứ không phải Mỹ). Tệ hơn, đang giữa lúc dân Ukraine đổ máu vì chiến tranh, thì lại đòi nợ, đòi chia phần khai thác khoáng sản, đất hiếm của Ukraine còn chuyện bảo đảm an ninh cho Ukraine thì không được đề cập!

Hoặc là nhiều người đã quên mất lịch sử nước mình, hoặc là họ có những hệ thống đúng-sai, đạo đức khác nhau để áp dụng tùy trường hợp, trong khi lẽ ra phải hiểu rằng đúng là đúng, mà sai là ai; thiện là thiện, mà ác là ác; không thể có một hành động/ chính sách bị lên án với quốc gia này, lãnh tụ này, lại không được áp dụng với quốc gia khác, lãnh đạo khác.

Quốc gia nào dù hùng mạnh, “vĩ đại” đến đâu, cũng có những khía cạnh không hoàn hảo, cũng có những sai lầm. Nhìn lại những chính sách ngoại giao của Hoa Kỳ thì đúng nhiều mà sai cũng lắm, và chuyện bán đứng nước khác, thương lượng trên đầu nước khác, không phải là lần đầu mà có lẽ cũng chẳng phải là lần cuối.

Tương tự, lãnh đạo nào thì cũng là những con người, không phải thánh để mà không sai lầm và không được phép chỉ trích.

Coincidentally, the history of Vietnam in the 20th and 21st centuries has many similarities with the history of Ukraine. And what the country and people of Ukraine are going through these days is what the country and people of Vietnam have gone through.

Like Ukraine, Vietnam has to be next to a neighboring country that is many times stronger and mean, always wanting to control and dominate the smaller, weaker country, and if it cannot control it, it will send troops to attack and destroy it.

Ukraine has spent three years fighting against Russia's full-scale invasion, but in fact that war began in 2014.

Meanwhile, China has also attacked Vietnam. This February 17, 2025, is the 46th anniversary of China sending troops to attack Vietnam along the entire border between the two countries. Although China announced its withdrawal on March 16, in reality, the conflict on land and at sea between the two sides lasted until 1988. And Vietnam lost a part of its territory, territorial waters, and islands after this conflict.

Many Vietnamese still remember by heart the cruelty and savagery of Communist China with its "using force to overwhelm people" tactic, with the motto of killing everything, destroying everything, leaving no one or anything behind.

Putin's Russian army is the same, not sparing the lives of its soldiers, and not respecting international conventions and laws on war, brutally attacking hospitals, schools, and houses, raping women, kidnapping children, torturing prisoners, and even brainwashing Ukrainians in areas occupied by Russian troops. More pitiful than the Vietnamese, the Ukrainians have had to endure that horrific brutality since 2014, and at a higher intensity, since February 2022.

And now, Ukraine is facing the risk of being abandoned by the United States, under the Trump administration, joining hands with Putin to end the war in a way that is completely disadvantageous to Ukraine. This reminds the Vietnamese of the tragedy of the former Republic of Vietnam.

With such similarities in circumstances and fate, the Vietnamese would sympathize with the Ukrainian people, condemn Putin, and criticize the Donald Trump administration. But strangely, with the views of pro-Russian, pro-Trump people. With pro-Russian Vietnamese people, they laugh, mock Ukraine, and insult President Zelensky for having to rely on American and Western weapons. It seems that they forgot that in both wars against France and the United States, the Vietnamese Communist Party had to depend on and ask for support from the Soviet Union and China in all aspects, while the Republic of Vietnam also needed support from its ally, the United States.

Or in other words, in the Vietnam War from 1954 to 1975, both sides were left alone, brothers fighting to the death with weapons and ammunition provided by outsiders.

For pro-Russian Vietnamese, they blame Ukraine for wanting to escape from the Russian-Putin blockade, wanting to follow the democratic model of European/Western countries to be able to develop better. Is it true that independent, sovereign countries do not have the right to choose their own path, choose their own institutional model? If so, does Vietnam also not have the right to change but must forever follow the Chinese model? Or blame Zelensky and the Ukrainian people for standing up to fight against Russia, instead of giving in to avoid war, at any cost.

In the past, Ho Chi Minh called for “even if we have to burn the Truong Son mountain range…”, the Vietnamese Communist Party at that time fought the US before it was present in Vietnam, fought the US when it had already withdrawn, the peace agreement had been signed but it was still thrown into the trash, continued to fight until it gained sole leadership over the whole country. But now, there are people who criticize President Zelensky for fighting, as well as those who support ending the war as soon as possible, regardless of the price that the Ukrainian people had to pay, which was very unfair and dangerous for the security and future of their country. For pro-Trump Vietnamese, especially those from the South who were once in pain when the Republic of Vietnam was abandoned and forced to die, but now they agree when the Trump administration acts like this - whitewashing a murderous dictator who is wanted for war crimes, Putin, inviting [Putin] to the negotiating table, leaving Ukraine and Europe out (although this is the fate of Ukraine and the security of Europe, and although as Trump administration officials themselves declared, Europe and Ukraine must continue to confront Putin Russia, not the US). Worse, while the Ukrainian people are bleeding because of the war, they are demanding debts, demanding to share the exploitation of minerals and rare earths of Ukraine, but the issue of ensuring security for Ukraine is not mentioned!

Either many people have forgotten their own country's history, or they have different systems of right and wrong, ethics to apply depending on the situation, while they should understand that right is right, and who is wrong; good is good, and evil is evil; There cannot be an action/policy that is condemned with this country, with this leader, but not applied to another country, with another leader.

Any country, no matter how powerful, “great”, has imperfect aspects, also has mistakes. Looking back at the foreign policies of the United States, there are many right and many wrong, and the story of selling out other countries, negotiating over other countries, is not the first time and probably not the last time.

Similarly, all leaders are human beings, not saints who cannot make mistakes and are not allowed to criticize.
