Bản duyệt trước Windows Developer Preview yêu cầu cấu hình tương tự các hệ thống chạy Windows Vista và Windows 7 gồm:

- Chip x86 (32 bit) hoặc x64 (64 bit) tốc 1 GHz trở lên.

- RAM 1 GB (32 bit) hoặc 2 GB (64 bit) trở lên.

- Ổ cứng còn trống ít nhất 16 GB (32 bit) hoặc 20 GB (64 bit).

- Đồ họa DirectX 9 với driver WDDM 1.0 hoặc cao hơn.

- Ưu tiên các hệ thống hỗ trợ cảm ứng.

Bản dùng thử Windows 8 đã thu hút nửa triệu lượt tải chỉ sau 12 tiếng.


Trong thử nghiệm của VnExpress.net, Windows 8 và Windows 7 được cài song song trên laptop HP dv5t (Core 2 Duo tốc độ 2,1 GHz và RAM 2 GB).


Hệ thống sẽ cần thời gian khởi động nhất định do phải tải cả 2 hệ điều hành cùng lúc cho đến khi ở trạng thái như ảnh đầu tiên. Sau đó, Windows 8 gần như cho phép làm việc tức thì (tính từ giây thứ 51). Xem video
